One of the most misunderstood dietary supplements in the industry is calcium. Calcium supplements abound in every health-food store however they are certainly not all created equal. It is important to keep in mind that calcium, along with other minerals, are some of the hardest nutrients for the human body to absorb, especially as we grow older. Most calcium supplements are derived from ground-up rocks, seashells, eggshells, or even coral. All of these sources are highly alkaline; that’s what makes them rocky, stony, and solidified. Because of this however, it makes minerals from these sources extremely difficult for the body to access, especially as we grow older. It is essential that the body be able to acidify these minerals from these very alkaline sources in order for them to be utilized on the biochemical level. Rather than rely on the human body as it grows older, to be able to properly acidify these minerals sufficiently for absorption, we have taken the steps to do so before they are consumed. There is a specific combination of minerals including calcium, magnesium, and potassium, together with select trace minerals such as manganese, copper, zinc, boron, and even strontium hydrochloride, which are essential and have been demonstrated to be the most bioavailable combination for nutrient absorption. There are no less than seven double-blind, placebo-controlled studies that have indicated that this particular combination of nutrients, if they are chelated, not only can halt the loss of further bone density but can actually increase bone density over a period of time.
